Stress Not Good For Heart

by Hsien-Hsien Lei, PhD on March 10th, 2006

Chronically stressed patients with coronary artery disease are at a threefold greater risk of dying when their hearts are under duress from exercising or mental stress. As anyone who has been in stressful situations knows, your heart races and your blood pressure increases, both leading to the heart’s need for oxygen-rich blood.

  1. Chronic anxiety
  2. Depression
  3. Anger
  4. Public speaking
  5. Doing mental arithmetic
  6. Recounting an argument
