Science and Health Channel Theme Day: Quit Smoking
Today, the b5media Science and Health Channel is holding a theme day about smoking. Take a look at my right sidebar and click on the other science and health blogs for some very thought provoking posts on smoking. I’ll do a round-up tomorrow too so you can see all that the Science and Health Channel has to offer on the subject.
If you’re smoking, you should quit.
If you don’t smoke, you should never start.
There. I’m finished.
Doesn’t do much to convince you, does it?
You might think (but probably not) that smoking is mostly related to lung cancer or other forms of cancer. In truth, smoking is one of THE MAJOR risk factors for heart disease.
In women (from familydoctor.org):
- More than half of the heart attacks in women under 50 are related to smoking.
- If you stop smoking, you can lower your risk of heart attack by one third within 2 years.
- Women who smoke and use birth control pills increase their risk even more.
I’ll still love you if you smoke, but I still gotta try and get you to quit because secondhand smoke affects me too. And the more you smoke, the less I’ll want to hang out with you. Would you rather be alone with your cigarettes or be with people you love?

I grew up in a household where there was a smoker and that sometimes worries me. I have outgrown it, but I had bronchitus as a child on a regular basis. That is probably one of the side affects??
Here’s to a new generation of non smokers.

I’ve been smoke free since October 5th. :)
One of the best sites I found was whyquit.com I learned about fruit juice and how much it helps there.
I couldn’t have done it without my apple juice that took the cravings away instantly.
I smoked for over 20 years too :)
Nice theme!

SP: Oh, yes. Asthma, bronchitis, you name it, smoking has something to do with it.
Unfortunately, we got a new generation of smokers in China and the developing world. Can’t give up the campaign yet!
Gayla: Way to go!!! Thanks for telling people what worked for you too.
Rob: Thanks! Your blog is very interesting too. I LOVE seafood stew.

Cory at Baldiness has done us the favor of collecting all the posts together into one comprehensive list. Smoking is a multi-faceted subject that our bloggers have done a fantastic job covering. […]
