Football Fans Target of Heart Health Studies
You poor World Cup soccer/football fans. Not only do you have to skip work to watch the games and suffer heart break when your team doesn’t do well, you’re also the target of researchers studying the incidence of heart attacks during international football tournaments.
In the new FIFA-approved study researchers will receive blood samples from heart attack victims all over Germany watching football at the time of the attack, allowing them to look for traces of stress hormones which can clot the blood.
Doctors will also receive samples from anyone who collapses in a stadium during a World Cup match and whose blood may show higher levels of hormones then those fans watching at home.
Previous studies have shown an increase in heart attacks related to the World Cup of as much as 60 percent! How an you protect yourself? Maybe while your favorite teams are in training for the World Cup, you should be working out too so that you can be in the best shape possible to enjoy the event as a spectator. It’s not as crazy as it sounds.
