Right Direction Cookies

by Hsien-Hsien Lei, PhD on June 26th, 2006

My week started off pretty well when I received some samples of Right Direction Cookies from Justin Longoria, a company representative. It came a little too late for breakfast especially since I’d already had a hefty piece of carrot & walnut cake (shut up back there, I can see you with a donut in your mouth). In any case, one of the press releases mentioned Randy Corby who has one cookie for breakfast and one for a midday snack. Not too far fetched to eat cakes and cookies for breakfast!

As soon as I could rip open the packaging, I crammed a piece of the Right Direction chocolate chip cookie in my mouth and simultaneously heated up another cup of coffee. (So I’m talented that way.) The cookie is a little dry but not unlike any other store bought cookie. And while you can make homemade cookies that are tastier and healthier than the average–my mom substitutes whole wheat flour and reduces the sugar in her cookies–they probably can’t boast a cholesterol lowering effect.

Right Direction Cookies have been found to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fasting glucose via soluble fiber and plant sterols. Compared to my carrot cake, these cookies have 12.5 grams of fiber per 100g vs. 0.9g. That’s 50% of recommended daily intake of fiber in two and a half cookies compared to less than 5% in my carrot cake. Disappointing because I would have figured carrots and walnuts would have a decent amount of fiber!

If you’re interested in trying Right Direction Cookies yourself, visit the RD Foods shop. A one week supply of 14 cookies retails for $13.99.

NB: Aside from the two cookies I received, this was not a paid endorsement.

1 opinion for Right Direction Cookies

I have been trying my own comparison between Choleseterol Pills and Right Direction Cookies. My Doctor told me I needed Pills to control my cholestrol. I heard a Doctor on TV that talked about these cookies so I ordered them and with my cholesterol pills I lowered my cholesterol more than 20 points. I was thrilled! But I need to know if it was the pills or the cookies. I stopped the cookies and just took the pills and the next time I was tested my cholesterol stayed the same. Now I am just eating the cookies without the pills and then I will know what works the best or maybe I need both. I am hoping that I can do this without pills. Joan
