The Larry King Cardiac Foundation
Popular CNN talk show host Larry King underwent quintuple bypass heart surgery in 1987 and founded the Larry King Cardiac Foundation in 1988 to “provide funding for life-saving treatment for individuals who, due to limited means or no insurance, would otherwise be unable to receive the treatment and care they so desperately need.”
This week, Larry King announced the Foundation’s partnership with the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center which will provide treatment to 300 uninsured patients over the course of three years including free medical devices and surgeries.
Way to go, Larry!

I created The Larry King Cardiac Foundation to help others get life-saving cardiac surgeries when they had nowhere else to turn. But what if we could learn how to stop heart disease from happening? What if we were able to reduce a person’s likelihood of cardiovascular disease based on his or her genetic profile, as well as on the individual’s age, gender, and lifestyle. It is my hope that by supporting the Archon X PRIZE for Genomics to drive rapid human genome sequencing that we can get answers to these questions and help our Foundation save more lives in the years to come.
