The recovery position ensures that an unconscious person maintains an open airway, that the tongue cannot be swallowed, and that any vomit or fluid will not cause choking.
Ensure the person is lying on their side, supported by one leg and one arm.
Keep the airway open by tilting their head and lifting the chin.
If the airway is not open and the person is not breathing, begin resuscitation ABC.
A – airway
B – breathing
C – circulationFYI: CPR = cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It’s strongly recommended that you learn how to do it by taking a course.
For courses in the US and UK, visit the American Red Cross or the British Red Cross.

Everyone should take a CPR & AED Class at least every two years to keep up on changes and refresh their skills. Between classes you can now download a podcast and listen to a review of the steps for performing CPR. Check it out on itunes or go to http://www.learncpr.podbean.com to subscribe.
