Compression Bra for Women After Heart Surgery
Most women would be glad to be rid of bras if not for a few hours, for an eternity. But for women recovering from heart surgery, they may want to keep their bras on.
A study of 481 Canadian women has found that those who wore a special compression bra designed by Dr. Kathryn King had less post-surgical breast pain and discomfort. The bra has a front zipper and velcro straps, no metal clasps so they can be kept on during X-rays.
The new design stops the weight of the breast from putting pressure on the surgical wound. It also allows women to wear a bra immediately after the operation, instead of three or four days later.
Researchers also hope the bras will help reduce scarring. I’ve sent an email to Dr. King to enquire where these bras can be found or perhaps how women can obtain a pattern to make them on their own. Will keep you posted.
