Dear Doctor #4: No Time for Regrets
In today’s Dear Doctor letter, Tammy Powley of Fat and 40 has few complaints about her doctor but does wish they could spend a little quality time together.
Dear Doctor,
I think you’re a wonderful doctor for the most part. You remember me, ask about my writing, ask “how are you?” when I see you and when I start to refer to my health, you stop and say, “No, how are you!” Wow!
My only beef is that I feel a little rushed because you’re always in a rush. So, when you ask me questions like, “any heart issues in your family?” I may first say no or shrug my shoulders because I feel like I have to give up some quick answer that I’m not prepared for. Then I realize later after I’ve left, “Oh, yes, so-and-so just had a heart attack. Crap. I should have told you that.”
It would also be nice if you were a little heavier so I wouldn’t be so conscious about my weight! ;)
Thank you,
Tammy
If I may offer a little bit of unsolicited advice, on your next visit, write a little note for yourself of things you’d like to mention to your doctor and make a show of consulting it. Then it’ll be clear you have an agenda to discuss and hopefully nothing will get left out!
