Happy Hearts During the Holidays

by Hsien-Hsien Lei, PhD on December 1st, 2006

No matter how many times I hear that heart disease is the number one killer in women more than all cancers combined, the reminder still gives me a jolt. Women, just like men, need to consider their heart health. Fortunately, healthy living helps reduce the risk of both heart disease and cancer. Here are some tips from First Coast News on how to survive the holidays with your ticker in a happy, hearty state:

  • Make a plan. Look at what’s on the calendar. Don’t overload yourself and don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to some things.
  • Make good food choices. Stay away from fatty foods and eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Don’t gain weight.
  • Exercise. It can be as easy as taking a power walk around the mall before you start holiday shopping.

Power walk around the mall before shopping sounds like just the thing!
