Large Tumor Removed from Newborn Baby’s Heart

Anne Therese Felts was born on Thursday, December 28, 2006, and underwent heart surgery the following day. In October, an ultrasound found a tumor in her heart, which was 1.5 to 2 times larger than the heart itself by the time it was removed and compared to a “plump strawberry.”
The large germ-cell tumor is believed to be benign and Anne Therese is expected to recover fully. Only 46 other cardiac teratoma tumors in babies have been recorded in the past with this one being the largest.
