A Hearty Life

Heart Failure Patient Bill Howdle’s Online Diary

by Hsien-Hsien Lei, PhD on January 13th, 2007

Bill Howdle is dying of heart failure. His cardiologist told him the bad news in 2004. In September 2006, he started his blog - Dying Man’s Daily Journal.

Ok. I am dying, so why am I on the internet telling the world about my problems? After all a lot of people are dying and in a lot worse shape than I am, being in pain or severe discomfort. I have a bad heart after 4 heart attacks and in congestive heart failure. According to the doctors I could go basically any time. I is my hope that by journaling my experiences, I can maybe help others when they are faced with the same issues. I have prepared myself and right now have no fear.

passwordHis story is in The Winnipeg Free Press and it made me think about how I might approach death and how I should be preparing a master list of passwords and other information for my family just in case. Check out the tips at Problogger.

I’ve been reading Bill H.’s blog since around March since he’s one of my blogging buddies and he is a sweet thoughtful man.

I’m thankful to have gotten to know him in this way. I have cancer and we’re sort of in a same sort of place - thinking about death and our families and it’s been helpful for us both I think.

Peace, love and understanding to all.
