Super Bowl Heart Attack Ad
Love it love it love it!!! King Pharmaceuticals has bought a Super Bowl XLI commercial for this Sunday, February 4th. They’re launching their three-year sponsorship of the American Heart Association high blood pressure website.
With the suspense and drama of a Hollywood action movie, “Heart Attack” features a Heart Man going about his everyday business when he is ambushed by high blood pressure and his accomplices — high cholesterol, overweight and diabetes. When the villainous risk factors are done with “Heart Man,” he is left with a clear understanding of the threat they pose, while the audience is asked, “Is your heart at risk of an attack?” Viewers are then called to action to find out what their personal risk of a heart attack or stroke is by going online to http://www.BeatYourRisk.com (a web site to be launched on February 4th) and taking a short online quiz. The hope is that they will then discuss their risk profile with their doctor and take appropriate action to reduce their risks.
I live in the UK so I probably won’t catch the commercial unless it ends up on YouTube. Maybe James at Squib Kick will come and tell us all about it. If you see it, tell us what you thought!

I have had CHF now for over 5 years’ and I exercise 7 days’ a week for 1/2 hour and stay active the rest of the day. Being postive is the answer, there are people worst off then you are. You do know that some day you are going to died and having been an funeral home owner for 40 years’and having my license for 60 years’, have seen a lot of death.

The ad scared my children. I am disappointed that the American Heart Association would endorse this. It presents a dirty and negative view of heart disease.

Jayne: Oh no! How old are they? I’m assuming they thought that mostly adults would be watching Super Bowl ads. :(

Right - rather have your kids have a cuddly, gentle kind of view of heart disease?
Your kids SHOULD be scared of heart disease!

US Ad Guy: Well, that’s the funny thing, isn’t it? As an adult, I saw that ad and thought it was hilarious and not scary at all. Maybe Jayne’s point is that fear doesn’t motivate as well as positive imagery. But as you can see from the ads they show here in Britain, fear is what they go for and they are far more extreme than what you get in the U.S.
