Lawn Mowing Can Be Fatal Among Heart Patients

by Kendra James, RN on July 17th, 2007

lawnmower.jpgAs I drove across the road today, that is American slang for went from here to there, I noticed several people mowing their lawns. Why is this a big deal you ask? Because it was 95 degrees outside and the humidity could have taken your breath away.

The George Mason University has published stats that examined “freak” lawn mowing accidents and causes of death among these patients. Here is what they found…

All the fatalities from lawn mowing resulted from cardiac arrest. All were male and aged between 40 and 79.

This summer, please be careful and be use good sense. Mowing the lawn is taxing, especially to someone that has a pre-existing heart condition. It can prove to have fatal consequences if you are not careful. Just a little helpful tip from someone that cares!
