High Diesel Fumes Affect Heart Function
Another study proving that air quality can affect heart disease. Researchers in Scotland and Sweden warn that air pollution can put patients at risk by affecting blood vessels and clotting. Ugh… I feel like it is everywhere. you can’t do this, can’t eat this, can’t go for a walk on a code red day.
Twenty men, who had suffered a previous heart attack but were screened to ensure their heart condition was stable and they did not suffer from angina or heart rhythm problems, were exposed…Electrical monitoring of the heart showed that inhalation of diesel exhaust caused a three-fold increase in the stress of the heart during exercise, the study said.
Bottom line, listen to your body. If it is a “code red” day and the smog is so thick that you could cut it with a knife then… don’t go outside! Simple enough, right?
Limit your exercise and outside activity near highways and other areas of high diesel fumes. Be your own advocate, and pass it on. You might save someone else from harm as well!
